Tribratanews.polri.go.id - After stop buying the coal from Russia, Europe is eyeing coal supplies from Indonesia. As is known, Europe has imposed various economic sanctions on Russia for its actions toward Ukraine.
Executive Director of the Indonesian Coal Mining Association (APBI) Hendra Sinadia revealed several countries in Europe are exploring in finding quality coal that matches their needs.
"Since the war broke out, several potential buyers from European countries have explored Indonesia. We were also contacted by their respective embassies to help facilitate these potential buyers and suppliers," explained the Executive Director of APBI, Thursday (7/4/22).
The Executive Director of APBI also said that European countries had difficulty getting coal supplies because they always bought the coal from Russia. However, now Europe did not import energy commodities from Russia due to the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Russia itself is the world's 3rd largest coal exporter with a total of about 200 million tons. A total of 120-130 million tons are exported to countries in East Asia and India. "And the remaining 60-70 million tons are exported to Europe. Now, this is an opportunity," explained the Executive Director of APBI.
The Executive Director of APBI admitted that this is a challenge for Indonesian coal companies because so far Indonesia has been exporting coal to Asian countries. "So far, Europe has not been on our radar. We only export a very small portion to Europe before, but because of the current conditions, there are opportunities," he explained.
