inp.polri.go.id – Papua. Papuan Police Chief, Inspector General Mathius D. Fakhiri, S.I.K., confirmed that Buchtar Tabuni, who is currently the Chairman of the West Papua Council of the ULMWP Provisional Government, who is also the former Chairman of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB), has been arrested.

Buchtar Tabuni and his colleagues were arrested because they attacked and ganged up on security forces who were patrolling and passing around his house.

It happened on Thursday morning, around 10.30 WIT, when joint forces patrolled the Wolker Camp area, Heram District, Jayapura. They also patrolled around the house of Buchtar Tabuni's, where several youths were gathered at the time.

Previously, the officers received info that there was a meeting at Buchtar Tabuni's house by a group of youths calling themselves the Interim Government of the West Papua United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP), explained the Papuan Police Chief, Thursday.

The Papuan Police Chief explained that the patrol was carried out to anticipate any disruption in the region.

At that time, the officers came to Buchtar's house and asked them not to hold a meeting, but the request was not accepted and they attacked the officers. Because of that, Buchtar Tabuni and his sympathizers were arrested.

"The case is now being handled by the Departamental Police (Polresta) of Jayapura City, and an investigation is still underway," said Kapolda Papua.

The United Liberation Movement for West Papua (ULMWP) is an organization that tried to separate Papua from the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).
