tribratanews.polri.go.id - Based on the data from the Institute for Criminal Justice Reform (ICJR), more than 60% of prisoners in Indonesia are because of drug crimes.

Related to this, the revision of the Narcotics Law is one of the topics that is often discussed, both among observers, academics, activists, researchers, to the government.

One of the important issues in the revision of the Narcotics Law is to put drug users in rehabilitation centers instead of prison.

Head of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) Petrus Reinhard Golose in his statement to the reporters at the Yusufronodipuro Auditorium, RRI Jakarta, Wednesday (06/04/2022), emphasized that legislators must arrange it well so that the revision of the Narcotics Law does not become a new law that could take advantage of.

According to the Head of BNN, the perpetrators who abuse the drugs repeatedly must still be prosecuted to undergo the criminal legal process.

"If we revise the Narcotics Law (UU), we aim to rehabilitate narcotics abusers who only used the drugs a maximum of two times. But, If they do it more than that, they still must be punished, "said Golose.

Golose emphasized that the drug users are still wrong, even though it is a victimless crime or a crime where the victim is themself.

Golose considers it necessary for the perpetrator to undergo a legal process when they do it repeatedly even though they have gone through rehabilitation, with the hope of making them not do it again.
